I have done a lot of recording, experienced performing all over the world on ocean-liners and cruise-ships, composed my own music and arranged my own shows. A lot of the creative composition and arrangement work of my recordings has been accomplished in studios in Montreal, Canada, Louisville, KY, and in my home town of Gloucester, MA. The picture on the bottom of this page is a nice panoramic view of the beautiful Cape Ann harbor that is opposite my house on Cripple Cove. Many musicians and artists visit Gloucester and call it home, and my town is alive with the sounds of folk artists and singer/songwriters in theaters, clubs and restaurants everywhere. I am honored to call this seaside artist colony home, and I am frequently flying from Boston Logan International airport to all the crazy ship ports of the world, joining yet another vessel on yet another contract...geesh!
Well, the good news is that I do get time to practice my wonderful Steinway grand piano pictured below
and I have written countless Broadway tunes, jazz tunes, arrangements, and contemporary improvisation pieces with the use of that piano. To listen to the ocean and compose music is truly an "out-of-body" experience. I listen to Frank Zappa regularly as he is a great inspiration, and I am currently working on, as of August, 2015, the virtuoso Romantic Piano classics such as Franz Liszt's "Mephisto Waltz #1", as well as French turn-of-the-century Impressionist classics such as Ravel's masterpiece for the piano, "Gaspard de la Nuit."
I am a professional pianist, entertainer and musical director with over 11 years of experience in the cruise entertainment industry.
In addition I have also worked as a showband keyboardist, jazz trio pianist, intermissionist/cocktail pianist, and countless other positions. During 2014 and 2015 I worked on Azamara Club Cruises as a pianist/keyboardist in the orchestra, accompanying opera singers from Italy to performing my own Headliner show. Under Royal Caribbean Cruise-lines Int, I was the musical director for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Broadway musical " Tell Me On A Sunday." During 2013 I was the musical director for Carnival Cruise Lines, specifically on the Carnival Paradise out of Tampa, Fl. Here is a picture of me with the great Carnival backdrop:
I have also worked extensively as a bandleader for the three remaining internationally famous ballroom-dance-orchestras-at-sea on the luxurious ocean-liners of Cunard Line.
I will be continuing as musical director and sideman on various other cruise lines for 2015-2016. From August 30th to Nov 16th, 2015 I will be working on the Celebrity Eclipse.
In addition to my cruise ship experience, I have also musically directed several musical theater productions at the college level, and I have taught music to students at private schools, universities, and at summer camps. I have also recorded several solo piano and piano trio albums under my own name. I have audio files and samples to listen to here:
